THE Head of the Electronic Banking Department of The Trust Bank (TTB), Mrs. Emelia Koranteng York, has advised potential users of the e-zwich facility to keep their savings accounts instead of other accounts.

COMMERCIAL banks and merchants in the Tamale metropolis have expressed their eagerness to operate the new national banking electronic product, known as the e-zwich, which the Central Bank introduced last month.

AT the National Theater in Accra on April 28, President John Kufuor launched the e-zwich payment plat-form for banks and other merchants who will need the platform for transaction settlements and cash withdrawals.

THE “e-zwich experiment” in Ghana has been enthusiastically received with 16 banks, over 110 businesses and thousands of individuals in Accra signing up to its pilot stage of operation. E-zwich is a banking system that provides a common electronic platform linking the payment systems of all licensed banks and non-bank financial institutions in the country.

THE Deputy Managing Director of the National Investment Bank (NIB), Mr. K. Owusu-Tweneboa, has said the introduction of the e-zwich banking in the country will strengthen the economic base of the country.

THE National Treasurer of the Credit Unions Association (CUA) Ghana Limited, Mr. Stephen Dzorkpata, has stated that the introduction of the e-zwich into the banking system will bring unprecedented changes into the economy.

Barclays Bank of Ghana has organized an E-zwich training programme for about 105 “Susu” collectors in Accra to introduce them to the use and advantages of the biometric smart card introduced by the Central Bank recently.

THE Executive Director of HFC Bank Ghana Limited, Mr. Akita, has stated that the development in electronic payment systems had enhanced the way business were now being conducted world wide. He explained that electronic payments were more cost effective on a large scale than cash payments.
