The ARB Apex Bank Ltd is to play a major role in the deployment and implementation of the electronic banking platform, e-zwich, especially in rural areas. The Apex bank will through the 120 rural and community banks (RCBs), which together have over 500 branches in rural Ghana, deploy the Point of Sale (POS) terminals in the rural areas to help integrate the large segment of the un-banked population of the country.

All is set for the introduction of the national electronic payment system, the e-zwich, next month. So far the necessary tests on the system, such as the user acceptance test, have been completed, proving a high user acceptance.

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has stated that it will meet the Aril deadline for introducing the electronic payment platform, also known as e-Zwich. Dr. Paul Acquah, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), gave the assurance that currently, the subsidiary of the central bank charged with implementing the system, the Bank Interbank Payment Settlement System (GIPSS), is conducting a test run – user acceptance test – on the system to determine challenges and strengths of the system.
